Skylar Grey XII :: Rihanna on LTWYL Pt.s II & III + LTWYL Pt. II Stream

Today posted up an interview that they did with Rihanna, within which she spoke on the challenge of making a sequel to “Love The Way You Lie“, and how Alex Da Kid had to talk her into it.

A selection from the MTV article
So what made her change her mind? It’s all due to the tireless trial-and-error work of producer Alex Da Kid, who not only crafted the original version of the song, but tinkered at length on “Part II,” eventually coming up with an updated take on the track that had Rihanna’s head spinning.
Rihanna stated ::
That was the challenge: How do you compete with ‘Love the Way You Lie‘ part one? The original, it was so massive, so it’s hard to do a version that’s kind of like that, but Alex, he changed the drums up and surprised me once again. … I love it.

Remember that Rihanna’s album LOUD drops on Nov. 16th (in one week), and the iTunes Version will exclusively contain a Part III to “Love The Way You Lie” which features Ms. Skylar Grey on piano, as well as serving as co-producer.

Skylar Grey X :: “Love The Way You Lie, Part III (Acoustic)” iTunes Track

First we had news of a Part II version of “Love The Way You Lie” by Rihanna & Eminem, which is set to appear on her upcoming album Loud.

Now we also have news of a Part III of LTWYL, this time an acoustic version that was crafted by Ms. Skylar Grey, which is currently set to be released as an iTunes-Only track.

Here’s the mention of LTWYL, Pt. III from the original MTV article ::

Rihanna on LTWYL, Part III ::

….after trying out several versions of a sequel track to the 2010 song off Em’s Recovery LP, she knew the magic from the first cut was still in the air.
We heard a broken-down version that was stripped down, just piano … that’s going to be a bonus on iTunes,” she said. “I fell in love with it. We recorded it, then we did another version to the stripped-down version with drums, then we did another version with drums and Eminem. And then that was the one that just felt really good.
I love both: I love the broken-down version, as well as the new one with Eminem,” she continued.

Skylar Grey :: Post IX – “Love The Way You Lie, Part II” MTV Review

MTV News was recently treated to a 6-song sample of the upcoming Rihanna album Loud.

Included in those tracks was the much-anticipated Rihanna+Eminem sequel duet “Love The Way You Lie (Part II)“.

*Rihanna sings ::
“on the first page of our story, the future seemed so bright / then the saint turned so evil”

(the preceding lyrics were written by Ms. Skylar Grey)

a selection from the article ::
When the chorus kicks in, the hook from the original track is bigger and more cinematic than ever before, but it’s Em’s seething anger when he delivers his verse that will have fans going bananas. He raps about the pain she causes him just as much as he causes her, spitting rhymes about trading punches with his lady love.

Skylar Grey :: Post VIII – Upcoming Avril Lavigne Single

Mentioned in a recent blog post is news of one of the songs that Ms. Grey has been writing with pop-punk rocker Avril Lavigne.

The untitled track will reportedly be the lead single from Lavigne’s also-untitled 4th studio album, and was produced by UK super-producer Alex Da Kid.

Here’s a selection from the article ::

“The lead single, which the friend describes as “upbeat but deep” was written by Alex Da Kid and Skylar Grey, and is set to be released sometime in the next month, according to the close friend. However that is not set in stone, Avril’s been skipping rehearsals lately ……. which evidently is pressuring the label to postpone the single release until next year.”

Below you can also view the original in-studio video (that was released in August) of Lavigne working with Ms. Grey and Alex Da Kid ::

Even angels have their wicked schemes, and you take that to new extremes, but you will always be my hero, even though you lost your mind….

Skylar Grey :: Post V – “Love The Way You Lie” @ 2010 VMAs

Prior to the MTV Video Music Awards premiere last night (12-SEP-2010), it was unknown in exactly what form Skylar Grey‘s hook for “Love The Way You Lie” would appear. While it was reported that LTWYL would be performed at the 2010 VMAs, it was also reported that Rihanna wouldn’t be on hand to perform the track with Eminem, due to commitments to filming her acting debut in the Peter Berg directed flick Battleship.

There were any number of possible collaborators available at the awards show, but no reports on who might be taking Rihanna’s place for the performance.
It was only after Eminem actually started performing live that Rihanna made her surprise appearance on stage and performed the duet along with Eminem.

Check out the performances of “Not Afraid“/”Love The Way You Lie” below ::

Meanwhile, Ms. Grey is still hard at work on various top secret projects.
